R.J. Reynolds Building at Night

It's no coincidence that the R.J. Reynolds Building might remind you of similar, but taller, buildings of the same vintage in New York City.

The R.J.R. Building was designed by the New York firm of Shreve, Lamb & Harmon, who used the building as a model for their more famous New York skyscraper completed in 1931: the Empire State Building.

There are other New York City buildings included in the lineage of the R.J. Reynolds Building: the Lefcourt National Building (1929), 40 Wall Street (now the Trump Building) (1930), 500 Fifth Avenue (1931), and 99 John Street (1933) were all Shreve, Lamb & Harmon Buildings.
