Freedom of the Press

Well, right off the bat, there's that pesky "Pray for Peace" postmark again, and that's what gets this stamp into this folio. We just can't seem to get enough of that. (Hint: we may see this postmark again.)

But the stamp-- it's non-religious.

Freedom of the Press.

We hear that term, Freedom of the Press, a lot. Usually, we hear the term as part of some screedy proclamation about the lack of said freedom, and in close proximity to the "C" word–"Censorship". And it's really quite ridiculous, these protestations about "free press" and "free speech" and "censorship".

Seriously, think about. We live in a country where, in any given week, you can find the President of the United States referred to as a freedom-abridging fascist in a mainstream newspaper or magazine. And it seems to be the same people saying this over and over again. So they are certainly free to keep on saying this as much as they like. Talk about freedom!

Meanwhile, if you are a scribe in one of the U.N.-member fascist nations, take my advice: don't refer to the freedom-abridging fascist ruler as a freedom-abridging fascist. You'll suddenly become "that guy", as in "hey, whatever happened to that guy?"

Here, the press routinely takes shots at our political leaders. There, the political leaders shoot you. Got it?

So keep screeching about censorship, freedom of the press, and freedom speech. If you are loud enough you'll get plenty of airtime and above-the-fold space. Just don't be suprised when your ranting makes the rest of pray for a little peace– and quiet.
